9And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.10So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
14But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.15For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.
Last night we concluded our study of Galatians by looking at two key aspects of the Gospel. First we talked about what it is to take every opportunity to do good and second we talked about why we are to do so.
We were exhorted to show our faith and express our love for those around us in both word and deed. There is a special charge to look after the family of God first, but as we see in Matthew 25: 40-46, this does not mean we can ignore those outside the family. What reason do we have to love those around us and serve them above our own needs? Because the cross of Jesus Christ has reconciled us with God and given us new life. We enjoy a union with Jesus Christ as though His life were being lived out in us.
The gospel is a life lived by Christ, through redeemed man for the purpose of bringing love, peace and mercy to the world. Has the seed of the gospel been sown in your heart? Will you reap the harvest of the Holy Spirit or of the sinful flesh? The letter to the Galatians stands as a living testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and our need for nothing other. May we embrace that message and enjoy the rich fellowship of God’s covenant community, as we are spurred on towards acts of faith and love to those in dire need of hope.
