Conregational Meeting Report - Spectrum 2007

Ministry Name: SPECTRUM - College & Career Ministry

Leader & Title: Jeff Price (teacher/organizer)

Regular Scheduled Meetings: 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM (weekly during the summer)

Primary Mission

A small group ministry to the college & career age meeting for the purpose of growing young adults in their faith and relationships with one another, connecting them to Covenant of Grace and ultimately to God's Kingdom. We endeavour to be imitators of Christ, engaged in intimate/authentic relationships, showing compassion to those around us.

Overview of Activities in 2007

Primarily we met twice a month from January - May, completing a study on JI Packer's Knowing God to increase our growth in the knowledge of doctrine. During the summer we met every week to study the book of Galatians using a study guide produced by Tim Keller with a heavy reliance on Philip Ryken's Reformed Expository Commentary to increase our growth in the knowledge of Scripture. This past fall to present we have been studying Tim Keller's Ministries of Mercy to increase our growth in the knowledge of ministry. In addition to growing our hearts and minds in the knowledge of our Lord, we also met throughout the year for fun game/movie nights and service opportunities. We have averaged between 10 and 15 people a night, with as many as 25 or 30 in attendance.

Highlights of 2007

  • Established a core group of 6 - 10 regular attenders
  • Established relationships with approximately 50 young adults connected with COG in the past or present
  • Connected individuals from our small group to other young adults in the area through events (fellowship and a short term mission trip) with Young Adult Reformed Fellowship, a ministry to the college & career age in the Baltimore/Washington area.
  • Supported WIC's ministry to the Helping Up Mission by serving prepared meals to men at the mission in the Fall
  • Packaged and delivered 30 lunches for the homeless and poor in Baltimore City around Christmas time

Major Plans for 2008

  • Grow in the knowledge of the Lord through studies on ministry using Ministries of Mercy by Tim Keller, worldview using The Truth Project by Focus on the Family, and doctrine using Attributes of God by AW Pink
  • Grow in our relationships with one another, while drawing in other young adults to our fellowship, connected with COG in the past, present and future
  • Grow in our ministry of service towards others by assisting the church and community as needed
  • Connect graduating youth with the Spectrum ministry
  • Connect with young adults outside the COG community through events with Young Adult Reformed Fellowship
  • Connect with young adults specifically from Liberty Church, PCA who only have a small group ministry during the summer
